What Is Epoxy & PU Flooring?

Epoxy and polyurethane (PU) flooring are resin-based seamless flooring systems applied over prepared concrete. The liquid resin and hardener react chemically and cure into a dense, jointless, hygienic floor that is bonded to the slab. Unlike tiles, vinyl planks or paint, a properly designed resin floor becomes part of the structure rather than a covering laid on top of it.

The category covers a wide range of systems, each engineered for specific demands. Standard epoxy coatings (epoxy paint) deliver a clean, dust-free finish for light to medium traffic. Self-levelling epoxy produces a smoother, thicker finish for showrooms, warehouses and modern commercial floors. PU coatings add UV resistance, flexibility and improved chemical performance. Polyurethane cement — known generically as PU concrete and through brand systems such as Ucrete® (Master Builders Solutions) and Stonclad® UT (Stonhard) — is a heavy-duty hybrid screed engineered for food plants, dairies, breweries and chemical exposure.

SolidDrops works with the right system for the right environment. We do not push one product line; we recommend the system that matches your substrate, traffic, temperature, chemical exposure, hygiene needs and budget. For a side-by-side breakdown, see our epoxy vs PU vs PU concrete comparison guide.

Why Epoxy & PU Flooring Matter in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s climate and industrial profile place specific demands on flooring. Coastal humidity in Jeddah, Dammam and Jubail, high ambient and substrate temperatures across the central and western regions, dust ingress in industrial zones, heavy forklift traffic in logistics hubs, and growing investment in food-and-beverage manufacturing and pharmaceutical capacity — all push flooring into a high-performance category.

A poorly chosen floor in a Saudi food plant, warehouse or workshop fails fast: bond loss from rising moisture, blistering from substrate heat at the time of application, surface cracking under thermal shock from steam cleaning, or chemical attack from sanitizers and oils. The right resin system is engineered to handle exactly these conditions. Specifying it correctly — and installing it correctly — is where most projects succeed or fail.

SolidDrops provides the technical guidance, datasheets, system selection and installation oversight that contractors, consultants and end-users need to get this right the first time.

Epoxy & PU Flooring Systems We Supply

Each system below is offered with full technical datasheets, system specifications, MSDS, and submittal-ready documentation for consultants and contractors.

Long Service Life

Properly specified resin floors deliver 10–20+ years of service with simple maintenance — far outlasting tile or paint in industrial environments.

Fast Return to Service

Fast-cure systems reduce shutdown time on operational sites. Foot traffic typically within 12–24 hours, full chemical cure within 7 days.

Safety & Slip Resistance

Aggregate-broadcast finishes deliver controlled slip ratings (R10–R13) for wet zones, ramps and food-prep areas.

Aesthetic Range

Solid colours, flake, quartz, metallic and zoned line-marking — engineered floors that also look the part for showrooms, retail and offices.

Installation Process — How SolidDrops Delivers a Resin Floor

The performance of any epoxy or PU floor is decided at the preparation stage, not at the topcoat. Our installation process is the same on a 200 m² workshop and a 20,000 m² warehouse:

  1. Site survey & substrate assessment. Concrete strength, moisture content (CM/RH), flatness (SR), contamination, joint condition, drainage falls, traffic and chemical exposure are checked and documented.
  2. System selection & submittal. We propose one or more compliant systems with full technical datasheets, MSDS, sample, color chart and method statement for consultant approval.
  3. Mechanical preparation. Diamond grinding, captive-shot blasting or scarifying — selected to match the system bond requirement (CSP profile). All laitance, paint and contamination removed.
  4. Repair & priming. Cracks, joints and spalls reinstated with epoxy mortar. Specified primer applied — moisture-tolerant primer used where slab humidity is elevated (common in coastal KSA).
  5. Body coats. Self-levelling, broadcast or PU-cement screed applied at specified thickness with calibrated tools and trained applicators.
  6. Finishing & cove. Top coat, anti-slip broadcast, line marking and integrated cove skirting where the project demands hygienic detailing.
  7. Cure, handover & documentation. Cure window protected; QA report, photos, batch records, and warranty/maintenance guide handed over to the client and consultant.

How to Choose the Right System

Resin flooring decisions should be made on engineering criteria, not on price-per-square-metre alone. The questions that matter most:

  • What is the substrate? Age, strength, moisture content and existing coatings drive primer and preparation choices.
  • What is the traffic? Foot traffic, pallet trucks, forklifts, steel-wheeled trolleys or heavy point loads each demand different thickness and aggregate.
  • What is the cleaning routine? Daily detergent washdown, steam cleaning, sanitizer fogging, dry sweeping — each pushes the system in a different direction.
  • What chemicals are present? Lactic acid, fats & oils, fuel, sulphuric or nitric acid, solvents — system must be matched to the chemical matrix.
  • What is the temperature exposure? Freezer rooms, hot water/steam, outdoor ramps with thermal cycling — PU concrete and PU coatings outperform standard epoxy here.
  • What is the hygiene requirement? Food-grade, GMP, cleanroom and pharmaceutical zones may require coved details, food-safe certification and specific finishes.
  • What service life is expected? A 3-year coating and a 15-year industrial floor are not the same product, even if they look similar on a sample.

SolidDrops will walk through these questions with your team and document the recommendation in the submittal — so the decision is engineered and defensible, not assumed.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Skipping moisture testing. A new slab in coastal KSA can hold high RH for weeks. Coating over it causes blistering and bond failure.
  • Treating epoxy paint as an industrial floor. A 200-micron coating is not engineered for forklift traffic or lactic-acid exposure.
  • Using shot-blasting alone on weak concrete. Soft slabs need repair and a primer-bridging strategy, not just preparation.
  • Ignoring temperature at the time of application. Resin systems have working windows. Hot Saudi summers require shifted schedules and modified products.
  • Closed-cell containment with no ventilation. Solvent-rich systems need ventilation — and ideally should be replaced with low-VOC alternatives in occupied buildings.
  • Specifying by name without a chemical matrix. “Epoxy” is not a specification. The submittal should match the chemical and traffic matrix.
  • Choosing on lowest price only. Resin floor failure costs 3–10× the original install when production downtime is included.

Maintenance & Lifecycle

A correctly installed resin floor needs simple, consistent maintenance:

  • Daily dry sweeping or auto-scrubbing with neutral pH detergent
  • Avoid concentrated solvents and strongly acidic / alkaline cleaners unless approved for the system
  • Address spills promptly to prevent surface staining
  • Inspect joints, transitions and high-wear zones every 6–12 months
  • Plan a recoat or refresh of top coats at the manufacturer-recommended interval — typically 5–10 years for traffic floors

SolidDrops offers maintenance contracts and refurbishment scopes — including patch repairs, full recoats and conversion of existing failed coatings into properly engineered systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SolidDrops?

SolidDrops is a Saudi Arabia–based supplier and project-support partner for industrial and commercial flooring, waterproofing, sports flooring, FRP wall panels, construction chemicals, pigments and fire alarm systems. We work with contractors, consultants, factories and facility teams to specify and deliver engineered resin flooring systems — including epoxy, PU and PU concrete — across the Kingdom.

Does SolidDrops serve Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Jubail, Makkah, Madinah and Tabuk?

Yes. SolidDrops delivers epoxy and PU flooring projects across all major Saudi cities and industrial zones — Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Jubail, Makkah, Madinah, Tabuk — and other KSA locations including Yanbu, Qassim, Hail and remote industrial sites. We mobilize trained applicators, supervisors and equipment to your site nationwide.

What is the difference between epoxy flooring and PU flooring?

Epoxy is hard, rigid and chemically resistant — ideal for warehouses, workshops and pharma corridors. PU (polyurethane) is more flexible, more UV-stable and tolerates thermal cycling — ideal for kitchens, healthcare and exposed ramps. Polyurethane cement (PU concrete) is a heavy-duty hybrid screed for food plants, freezers and aggressive chemical environments where epoxy alone would fail.

Which flooring system is best for a food or beverage plant in Saudi Arabia?

For wet food production — dairies, beverage bottling, meat & seafood, ready meals — a polyurethane cement screed (PU concrete) at 6–9 mm with coved skirting is typically the right answer. It tolerates steam cleaning, lactic acid, oils and thermal shock. Brand systems such as Ucrete® and Stonclad® UT belong to this category. SolidDrops will recommend the specific product after reviewing your cleaning regime and chemical matrix.

How long does an epoxy or PU floor last?

Indicative service life is 5–12 years for epoxy coatings and self-levelling epoxy, 8–15 years for PU systems and 15–20+ years for properly installed PU concrete screeds. Real life span depends on traffic, cleaning routine, chemical exposure and how well the substrate was prepared. Maintenance and a planned recoat program meaningfully extend service life.

What is Ucrete or Stonclad UT, and does SolidDrops install systems like these?

Ucrete® (Master Builders Solutions) and Stonclad® UT (Stonhard) are well-known polyurethane cement floor systems engineered for heavy industrial and food-grade environments. SolidDrops works with comparable PU concrete chemistries from leading manufacturers and delivers the same category of performance — 6–12 mm thickness, food-grade certification, thermal shock and chemical resistance. We will recommend a system that meets your specification and approval requirements.

How long does installation take, and can it be done while the facility is operating?

A typical 1,000 m² self-levelling epoxy floor takes 4–6 days from preparation to handover. PU concrete screeds typically take 6–10 days. Phased installation with night shifts, weekend windows and zoned shutdowns is normal practice for operating warehouses, factories and retail sites. SolidDrops plans phasing in coordination with your operations team.

What information should I send to get an accurate quotation?

Send the city and project location, the type of facility (warehouse, food plant, hospital, etc.), the area in m², the substrate (new or existing concrete, age, condition), the cleaning regime and chemicals used, traffic type (foot, forklift, steel-wheeled), required service life, photos of the site and BOQ or drawings if available. Email [email protected] or WhatsApp +966 50 213 1112.

Does SolidDrops only supply, or also install?

Both. SolidDrops can act as a material supplier to contractors who have their own application teams, or as a turnkey contractor for end-users — including site survey, substrate preparation, system installation, QA documentation and handover. Many projects in KSA combine both: we supply submitted materials and supervise the contractor’s application crew.

Can you support consultants and main contractors with submittals?

Yes. We provide consultant-ready submittal packages: technical datasheets, MSDS, system specifications, method statements, sample boards, slip-rating evidence, ITP and QA plans. If a project is at design stage, we also assist with system selection, BOQ language and tender clarifications.

What is anti-static or ESD epoxy, and when is it needed?

Anti-static and ESD epoxy systems use conductive resin layers and a copper grounding grid to dissipate static charges. They are required in electronics manufacturing, PCB assembly, server and switchgear rooms, certain pharmaceutical processes, and explosive-atmosphere stores. Specifications typically reference ANSI/ESD S20.20 and IEC 61340. SolidDrops supplies and installs both conductive and static-dissipative systems.

Does the floor have to be new concrete, or can you coat an existing slab?

Existing slabs are coated regularly. The slab must be sound, free of contamination after preparation, and within acceptable moisture limits. Where the existing concrete is weak, oil-soaked or excessively wet, we recommend repair, a moisture-tolerant primer, or in serious cases a thicker PU concrete overlay that handles residual moisture better than thin epoxy systems.

How fast can I get a consultation or site visit?

For projects in major cities — Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Jubail, Makkah, Madinah, Tabuk — site visits are typically arranged within 2–5 working days of inquiry. Urgent projects can often be reviewed faster. Email [email protected] or message +966 50 213 1112 with your location and timeline.

What other services does SolidDrops provide alongside flooring?

Beyond epoxy and PU flooring, SolidDrops supplies and installs waterproofing systems (PU, polyurea, PVC membrane, cementitious, EPDM), sports flooring (PU, acrylic, EPDM, artificial grass, running tracks, court systems), FRP wall & ceiling panels, construction chemicals, pigments (organic, inorganic, food-grade), fire alarm systems and related building materials. Many KSA projects use SolidDrops as a single coordinated supplier across these scopes.

How much does epoxy or PU flooring cost per square metre in Saudi Arabia?

Pricing varies by system, area, substrate condition and edge / line-marking work. As an indicative range only: epoxy coatings typically start at the lower end, self-levelling epoxy and PU coatings sit in the mid range, and PU concrete (Ucrete-type, Stonclad UT-type) is at the upper end because of thickness and material content. We issue written, BOQ-aligned quotations after reviewing your drawings or site photos. Email [email protected] with your area and substrate to receive an indicative number.

What warranty does SolidDrops provide on epoxy and PU flooring?

Standard installation warranty is typically 2–5 years for workmanship, plus the manufacturer's separate product warranty on the resin system. Warranty terms vary by system, traffic class and project conditions, and are confirmed in writing on the submittal and handover documents. The warranty covers debonding, cracking and surface failure under specified service conditions; it excludes mechanical damage, chemical exposure outside the design matrix and missed maintenance.

Are SolidDrops flooring systems food-grade and HACCP compatible?

Yes — for food, beverage and pharmaceutical projects we specify food-grade certified PU concrete (Ucrete®-type, Stonclad® UT-type) or compliant epoxy/PU systems with manufacturer certifications such as HACCP compatibility, EN 13529 chemical resistance and ISEGA food-contact testing. Coved skirting, integrated drainage and hygienic detailing are part of the scope. Certificates are issued with the submittal pack on request.

Can SolidDrops mobilise quickly for urgent or shutdown projects in KSA?

Yes. We regularly handle phased shutdown work — overnight, weekend and zoned scopes — for warehouses, factories, retail and food plants. With confirmed scope and access, mobilisation in major cities (Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Jubail) is typically within 3–7 working days. Material lead time depends on the system selected.
